An hour after House Democrats announced that they would be filing two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and a large group of Democratic legislators held a press conference to announce that they had agreed on the president’s USMCA trade proposal.
Republicans are saying that the bipartisan USMCA trade deal had been held up by Democrats who were completely focused on the impeachment inquiry, and did not want to give Trump a win.
Pelosi’s move to approve the USMCA appears to have watered-down a bit the impeachment news, and gave Trump exactly what he has been looking for, a huge win.
Trump campaigned on scrapping and renegotiated all of the existing U.S. trade deals, in particularly NAFTA. The USMCA is Trump’s replacement for NAFTA.
"Looking like very good Democrat support for USMCA,” stated Trump “That would be great for our Country!"
Florida Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D), Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D), and Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D) were among the many House Democrats that have been looking forward to Pelosi to approve the USMCA.
“The speaker sent a memo the other day saying that they are getting very close,” said Wasserman Schultz “So, I’m feeling pretty good about it, but important things was making sure that we had labor and environmental standards, enforcement measures, and also just make sure that we don’t get NAFTA, you know NAFTA 2.0 and not much difference in that regard.
