Former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum has been arrested in Alabama for drug possession.

The embattled politician, who served as the Mayor of Tallahassee from 2014 to 2018 before setting his sights on the governor's mansion, was arrested last week on drug offenses. On Thursday, July 2, 2026, Gillum was booked in the Baldwin County jail for possession of dangerous drugs, drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana.

He was released the same day, and further information regarding his arrest has not been made public.

In 2020, The Floridian first broke the story of Gillum having overdosed at the Mondrian Hotel on Miami Beach.

Police body cam footage was later released and retracted.

Gillum defeated Rep. Gwen Graham (D-FL) for the Democratic nomination in 2018. In the general election, he lost to Governor Ron DeSantis in a 49.2% to 49.6% election, which saw Governor DeSantis claim victory.

Graham is now running for Lieutenant Governor in a ticket with former Rep. David Jolly, a Republican turned Democrat who is looking to turn the governor's mansion blue.
