U.S. Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) expressed her support for the Jewish community and disdain for antisemitism by announcing her co-sponsorship of the Jewish American Security Act.
The bill aims to fortify federal efforts to combat antisemitism across the U.S. and to protect the Jewish community.
“Antisemitism has no place in the United States. It is a threat to our freedom and to the values that unite us as a nation,” Congresswoman Salazar wrote on X.
“That is why I am proud to cosponsor the Jewish American Security Act, a bipartisan bill that strengthens the security of Jewish communities, protects students, and confronts hate wherever it appears,” Rep. Salazar added.
The Jewish American Security Act
The legislation, introduced by a bipartisan group of 28 members in the U.S. House of Representatives, uses a Six-Point Security Plan to protect Jewish Americans and Jewish institutions.
The group, led by U.S. Representatives Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) and Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), introduced the bill in response to several high-profile antisemitic attacks across the U.S., including a firebombing in Colorado, the shooting of two staffers in Washington, D.C., and an arson incident in Pennsylvania.
The bill includes significant features, which include the reauthorization of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) National Security Grant Program (NGSP) at $1 billion through 2031.
It also aims to authorize $9 billion a year for the Department of Justice (DOJ) from Fiscal Years 2027-2031 to strengthen state and local law enforcement initiatives at religious institutions, respond to the increase in religious hate crimes, and improve coordination between state and local authorities and the DOJ.
Elvira Expresses Solidarity With the Jewish Community
“In Miami and across our country, we stand firm alongside our Jewish brothers and sisters,” Rep. Elvira Salazar concluded.
Representative Elvira Salazar is a strong advocate against antisemitism, serving as a co-chair of the Congressional Latino-Jewish Caucus and as a member of the Bipartisan Task Force to Combat Antisemitism.
