Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Judge Adam Tanenbaum to the Florida Supreme Court while speaking at a news conference at Seminole High School this week. Tanenbaum is a judge for the First District Court of Appeals and a former general counsel for the Florida House of Representatives.

Adam Tanenbaum graduated first in his class from Seminole High School in 1989. He later graduated first in his class from the University of Florida and received his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.

Gov. DeSantis appointed Adam Tanenbaum to the First District Court of Appeal on October 16, 2019.

"I think he has done very well as a judge; he has written a lot of very important opinions," DeSantis said. "[He] clearly has a very coherent view of the law."

Tanenbaum has appointed over six other candidates certified by the Judicial Nominating Commission. Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed six Florida Supreme Court justices during his tenure, with the Pinellas County native being the latest.

"You will not find ten people out of the 23 million [people in Florida] that knows more about Florida government, the agencies, the legislative branch than Judge Tanenbaum. He knows this stuff very, very well," DeSantis added.

Tanenbaum replaces Charles Canady, who resigned to serve as the Director at the University of Florida's Hamilton School for Classical and Civic Education.

"Thank you, Gov. DeSantis, for boldly and relentlessly pursuing your vision for a state judiciary that reflects and respects the values shared by Florida citizens, one that understands its place in the consolidation of sovereign powers set out in the Florida Constitution," Tanenbaum said.

"I wholeheartedly embrace your vision, governor, and I am honored and humbled that you would entrust me with what likely is your capstone appointment to our state's high court," Tanenbaum said. "And thank you for holding this event at my alma mater, Seminole High School. Go War Hawks."
