In a recent appearance on Fox Business's Varney & Co, Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) predicted that his colleague Representative Byron Donalds' (R-FL) bill cracking down on illegal alien truck drivers is going to be a party-line vote.
In September, Rep. Donalds introduced the Weigh Station Enforcement to Intercept and Guard Highways (WEIGH) Act, which requires all weigh stations along interstate highways to review truckers' commercial driver's licenses for irregularities and ensure they are proficient in English.
The bill was introduced after an August incident in Port Saint Lucie, Florida, where an illegal alien from India named Harjinder Singh caused a fatal traffic accident while driving a semi-truck, killing three.
Singh had been issued a commercial driver's license in California, yet he could only correctly identify two of four road signs and he couldn't speak English. He attempted to escape prosecution by fleeing back to the Golden State, but Florida Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins (R-FL) personally went to retrieve Singh, announcing that they are "done with that sh*t" to the press in Stockton.
More recently, another illegal alien from India, Jashanpreet Singh (no relation to Harjinder), also killed three drivers in a similar accident in California while under the influence of drugs. Jashanpreet received a California commercial driver's license in June.
Rep. Gimenez was asked if he believed the WEIGH Act would receive any Democratic support in Congress, to which Rep. Gimenez replied, "no, I doubt it."
"This will be a straight party line vote, and I would think that the Republicans would vote for it," the Florida Congressman replied. "I think it is outrageous that California does these kind of things, giving out commercial driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, and then we are suffering the consequences."
