Congressional candidate Ryan Elijah has called upon Rep. Cory Mills to drop out of the race for Florida’s 7th Congressional District (FL CD 7), amid reports that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is conducting a criminal investigation into the incumbent congressman.
“It is time for Cory Mills to leave the race. Our bad headlines must stop!” Elijah declared on X, affirming that “the people in Seminole and Volusia counties deserve better.”
Sources Reveal DOJ Probe
According to several anonymous sources, the DOJ is investigating the Army veteran regarding his finances, allegations of misconduct, and individuals in his circle.
Sources also revealed that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida ,which covers 35 of Florida’s 67 counties, is conducting the probe.
Investigators are also said to be examining some of Rep. Mills alleged foreign business activity.
Mills Affirms He Knows Nothing About It
Volusia County Republican told MS Now – who first reported the story – that he knew “nothing about it.”
“This is the first I’m hearing about it,” Rep. Mills added, affirming that the Federal Election Commission (FEC) “dismissed all the campaign stuff.”
Back-to-Back Investigations
The DOJ’s probe into Congressman Mills comes amid a House Ethics Committee investigation into related matters.
In Nov. 2025, the Committee announced it would look into whether the Army veteran violated campaign finance laws, engaged in sexual misconduct, engaged in domestic violence, misused congressional resources, and whether he accepted improper gifts.
In May 2026, the Investigative Subcommittee announced that it issued more than “20 subpoenas, collected thousands of documents, and contacted dozens of witnesses.”
Mills’ bid for the congressional seat continues to take hit after hit, as the Republican faces both legal and fundraising challenges against his opponents.
Mills' Campaign Challenges
In Early July 2026, Republican challenger Michael Johnson sued the incumbent Congressman for allegedly improperly notarizing his candidate documents.
A week later, it was reported that Mills raised only $60,000 in campaign funds during the same period that Elijah raised $168,000 from several contributors.
