In the wake of Congressional resignations from Reps. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) and Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) over sexual misconduct allegations, and a possible federal conviction for fellow Florida Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (R), Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) shared that he is not expecting to be expelled from the U.S. House of Representatives despite alleged ethics allegations.

According to Politico, Rep. Mills shared during an interview that he told House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) that he was “unfairly lumped into this,” referencing Swalwell, Gonzales, and Cherfilus-McCormick’s recent controversies.

“I don’t even fall into the category of Swalwell or Gonzales,” Rep. Mills additionally reaffirmed when talking to NewsNation.

“I had never been arrested, had never gone to any proceedings, and it was essentially just something where it was a bad breakup. It’s just interesting kind of seeing how you’re guilty by accusation as opposed to the way the rule of law truly works,” Mills said, according to The Hill.

The House Ethics Committee is currently investigating Rep. Mills for suspected dating violence, campaign finance violations, and more, The Hill reported.

Congressmembers Call on Rep. Mills to Resign

“I’m glad that Eric Swalwell is leaving. I’m glad that Tony Gonzalez is leaving,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) (D-N.Y.) said. “Frankly, I think Cory Mills should probably be on that list as well.”

“You know, I think it’s the right thing to do. This Washington should be a place where we are elevating and acting with integrity, and I think it’s what the American people expect. These are positions of profound privilege and profound responsibility, and I think the most important thing right now is to center these women and their bravery in coming forward,” Rep. AOC remarked.

Several Congressmembers, such as Reps. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), Andre Carson (D-Ind.), Chris Pappas (D-N.H.), and Nydia Velázquez (D-N.Y.) have also urged Rep. Mills to resign or be expelled.

House Speaker Mike Johnson recently informed reporters that he will be “looking into” the state of the House Ethics Committee’s probe into Mills.

“With regard to Mills, I’m not sure the status of the Ethics Committee investigation. That’s one of the things I’ll be looking into today,” Johnson told CNN.
