Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) is calling Democratic lawmakers in Washington, D.C., dysfunctional and anti-police after a group of House Democrats, including Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, allegedly "stormed" House Speaker Mike Johnson's office this week, pressuring him to swear in newly elected Arizona Rep. Adelita Grijalva (D).
"Every American should be concerned as Democrats’ dysfunction quickly turns to violence toward the very law enforcement they’re refusing to pay! Meanwhile, Democrats are happy to take a paycheck and double down on Schumer’s Shutdown. It’s a slap in the face to these officers," stated Sen. Scott on social media before asking the two leaders to condemn the actions of those lawmakers who sought out Speaker Johnson.
The group of Democrats, which was led by Reps. Melanie Stansbury, Nanette Barragan, Pramila Jayapal, Wasserman Schultz, and a handful of other lawmakers changed"swear her in"
Footage from various angles shows Jayapal and Stansbury messing with the sign in front of the speaker's office and getting into an altercation with one of the officers.
Rep. Grijalva, whose election win was recently certified, played the race card to the media. Rep. Grijalva asserted that Speaker Johnson had not sworn her in because she was a "woman of color," and that he had previously sworn in two Republicans and one Democrat.

Let's just be very clear. This Speaker has sworn in 3 other members...The only difference is that I am not a caucasian male, and I am a woman of color," Rep. Grijalva said. "If I was a Republican, I would have already been sworn in."
Speaker Johnson quipped about the House Democrats storming his office and berating a Capitol Police officer, and "tore down a sign."
Instead of voting to pay our troops, help women, infants, and children, and reopen the government, DEMOCRATS have decided it’s better to BERATE Capitol Police - who are working nights without pay thanks to their shutdown. Meanwhile, 1.3 MILLION troops would be missing paychecks right now if not for President Trump’s leadership. The American people can see the stark contrast — and they know it’s REPUBLICANS who are delivering real, positive, results that improve lives.
"They stormed my office. Maybe you saw some of the video online that they themselves shared or someone did, they berated a Capitol Police officer, screamed at him. He was just merely standing at his post," Johnson said. "It shows again their disdain for law enforcement, as we see all around the country, the Democrats and everyone in that party screaming, assaulting ICE officers. They did it right here in the Capitol last night. A few members of Congress went into the little foyer of my office and tore down a sign that I had and up, and just engaged in all sorts of political stunts and antics."
The federal government shutdown is going into its third week.
