Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) made a statement putting California on blast for its “lawlessness” following an accident where a semi-truck driver made an illegal U-turn on Florida’s Turnpike, causing the deaths of three people in Fort Pierce.
“It should make every American furious to see California’s lawlessness costing three innocent people their lives. This illegal alien never should’ve been in our country, let alone granted a commercial driver’s license! Time for accountability,” Sen. Scott said.
The driver, Harjinger Singh, who is an illegal Indian national, faces three counts of vehicular homicide when he attempted to maneuver the truck in a turnaround area marked for "official use only," when it crossed in front of a Chrysler Town & Country minivan, causing the van to crash into the back of the truck at full speed.
As the police arrested Singh, an investigation opened by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement revealed that he had been living in the U.S. illegally since 2018, after he crossed the border from Mexico.
After entering the U.S., Singh was able to receive a CDL license from the California Department of Motor Vehicles. However, authorities do not fully know how he obtained the license, and the CDMV states, “a driver must provide proof of legal presence in the U.S. to apply for a commercial driver’s license.”
Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Executive Director Dave Kerner released a press conference calling the incident “both shocking and criminal." he continued, stating, “Three people lost their lives as a result of his recklessness, and countless friends and family members will experience the pain of their loss forever."
Kerner finished his press conference assuring that Singh will no longer be able to damage and destroy the lives of Floridians and visitors. The state will deport him after filing charges.
