Florida House District 27 hopeful Steve Shives (R) has received an endorsement from the Gun Owners of America (GOA) group. Florida State Director of GAO, Luis Valdes, provided a statement alongside his organization’s recommendation, stating that Shives is “just as fed up” with major issues as other Floridians.

“Multiple times now, I’ve spoken to Steve about the issues Floridians face, and he is just as fed up with it as you are,” said Valdes, the Florida State GAO Director. “That’s why he’s running, and that’s why Gun Owners of America is proud to endorse Steve Shives for House District 27.”

Valdes continued by asserting Shives is not a part of the GOP establishment in Florida’s capital.

“The Republican Political Machine doesn’t want people like Steve in Tallahassee. Well, we want someone like Steve in Tallahassee. Someone who’ll help overturn the gun control that the party elites passed in 2018 after Parkland. So, get out and vote for Steve on August 20 during the Republican Primary and send the establishment a message.”

Moreover, Shives accepted Valdes’ endorsement, saying he was “honored” to receive it.

“I’m honored to have the endorsement of Gun Owners of America,” said Steve Shives. “We must protect our Second Amendment right to defend ourselves and those we care about. I’m incredibly proud to stand with those at GOA who are working hard to ensure these fundamental rights are never infringed upon. This issue will be one of my top priorities in the Florida House of Representatives.”

Shives will look to beat out his primary opponents Richard Gentry and Beckie Sirolli on Aug. 20. Democrat Andy Ferrari and Libertarian Dennis Simpson Jr. have already qualified for the general election on Nov. 5, according to Ballotpedia.

Florida State House District 27 comprises north Lake County, west and south Volusia County, and south Marion County.
