Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and his colleagues have sent a letter to call on Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Department of Justice (DOJ) to inquire about what legal action can be pursued concerning the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its involvement in the initialization of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The virus’ beginnings, which was originally – and still is – disputed, has slowly seen the public opinion shift towards blaming the Chinese government.

Over one million Americans have died due to the virus.

“More than 1.1 million Americans have died due to COVID-19 in the past three years, and untold millions more have suffered, and continue to suffer, physical and economic harms related to the pandemic,” the Senators wrote.

During the initial outbreak, there were rumors that the virus actually came from a lab in China. However, on social media platforms and on news outlets around the country, to hold those views or to entertain that idea led to individuals being labeled as conspiracy theorists or even racist.

However, some U.S. agencies are now declaring the “lab-leak theory” as the actual cause of the initial spread.

The Senators went on to mention that “Last month, newly uncovered intelligence information led the U.S. Department of Energy to conclude that COVID-19 emerged from a lab leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China, joining the assessment previously made by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the pandemic’s origins.”

Those who signed the letter would go on to ask why AG Garland has not brought legal action to the CCP yet, as well as scold Garland for his tenure as the Attorney General so far.

“We write to ask what legal action you have pursued or plan to pursue as U.S. Attorney General against the Chinese Communist Party officials responsible for that lab leak and/or its cover up to vindicate the interests of the millions of Americans who have been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic?

“Your tenure as U.S. Attorney General has, regrettably, been marked by an apparent preference to wield the substantial resources of the federal law enforcement apparatus at your disposal for nakedly partisan endeavors rather than engaging in meaningful pursuits to benefit our country as a whole.”

Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Mike Braun (R-IN), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Bill Hagerty (R-TN) joined Sen. Scott in signing the letter.
