After Democratic lawmakers expressed their support for Gov. Ron DeSantis’s $1 billion gas tax holiday proposal, many of these same Democrats hoped that the money used to help relieve the burden at the pump would not come from funds allocated for other infrastructure programs.

During a press conference announcing the appointments of Jared Moskowitz and Tory Alston to the Broward County Commission, Gov. DeSantis reassured skittish Democratic lawmakers that his administration was “committed to ” and would “fully fund the work program” using the cash reserves the state already had in place.

“We will fully fund the work program.  We are committed to doing that, that will happen you'll see in my budget which will have out after the holidays, will fully fund it,” asserted Gov. DeSantis. Fortunately, Florida's been doing very well financially.”

“Whatever our shares of this gas tax, why don't we just reduce it to zero and do that as long as we can, so I think it's gonna be good people be happy.”- Gov. Ron DeSantis

DeSantis also added that he would be increasing teacher pay again, giving out bonuses to first responders, and giving “$5,000 signing bonuses” to law enforcement officers coming into Florida from other states like New York.

“We're doing another increase for teacher pay. We're gonna do bonuses for cops and firefighters again. “We're going to do a $5000 signing bonus for out-of-state law enforcement that have treated very poorly in other parts of the country,” added DeSantis.
