U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations (U.N.) Mike Waltz clashed with Cuba’s Foreign Minister amid the U.N. General Assembly’s meeting to decide on a resolution to end the U.S. blockade on Cuba.

The shouting match between Waltz and Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla occurred during Waltz’s statements ahead of the vote on Cuba’s “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba” Resolution.

During Waltz’s speech, the Ambassador touched on Fidel Castro’s oppressive regime in the Caribbean nation.

“When Fidel Castro seized power, he confiscated businesses, farms, factories, homes and the savings of generations of hard-working Cubans,” Waltz said.

“And then when Castro sent thousands of gay people, Christians, Afro-Cubans, and others to concentration camps, it was the regime that stripped them of their property and profited from their forced labor,” Waltz said just before the Cuban delegation began their public outburst against his comments.

Moments later, Rodríguez approached the podium and argued that Waltz’s statement violated the General Assembly’s procedural rules.

Cuban Foreign Minister Fires Back At Waltz

Rodríguez Parrilla called out Waltz, calling the Ambassador a liar, uneducated, and unprofessional in a statement following the outbursts.

"I request you to call to order the permanent representative of the United States, who is not only lying grossly, but is beneath the dignity of this forum and member states," Rodríguez Parrilla said. "He is offending the dignity of the people and government of Cuba."

Waltz Calls Out Cuban Leadership For Abuses of Power

Following the exchange, Waltz called out the Cuban regime for telling its people that private wealth was immoral while simultaneously enriching themselves and stripping its people's wealth, showing countless examples of its leaders' corruption.
