Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) recently said he agrees with one concern shared by New York City’s Democratic Socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
In an interview with The Daily Wire, Sen. Scott opened up about one of the biggest concerns both sides of the ideological spectrum share: the unaffordable housing crisis.
“I agree with Zohran Mamdani,” Sen. Scott said. “Homeownership has become nearly impossible, and too many young families are struggling.”
Sen. Scott Says Socialism is Not The Answer
Despite understanding the issue at hand, Sen. Scott argues that integrating socialism within the fabric of American governance is not the solution.
“The cost of housing today isn’t the free market failing, but the government failing the people and the free market,” Sen. Scott affirmed.
The Florida Senator argues that Mayor Mamdani’s “socialist agenda will only create more of the failed big government spending and regulation” that cause the housing crisis in the first place.
Scott's "Rescuing America" Project
Sen. Scott’s comments come after the Florida lawmaker announced a new project laying the groundwork for Congress to “reinvigorate the American Dream.”
The “Rescuing America” project aims to outline a path for current and future generations to have great opportunities to live, work, and start a family amid the ongoing affordability crisis.
Big Government Needs To Back Off
“President Trump has been using every tool he has on this problem, but it’s time for Congress to get government the heck out of people’s lives so hard-working Americans’ money can go a lot further,” Sen. Scott argued. “That’s the best way to make sure young families can own an affordable home and have a shot at the American Dream.”
The conflict driving the housing crisis appears to revolve around ensuring existing homeowners can preserve their wealth while ensuring younger generations can buy homes at an affordable rate, so they can bask in the same fruits as their predecessors.
This dichotomy is what appears to make it difficult for lawmakers to find a simple solution.
