WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democratic incumbent Rep. Jared Moskowitz (Fla.) spoke with The Floridian publisher Javier Manjarres about the current political climate in the weeks leading up to the 2026 Midterm election.
With just 7 weeks until the election, Congressman Moskowitz asserted that Republicans know they’re behind and at risk of losing control of the House, which is why they “are coming in with record amounts of money.”
“The reason they’re behind is because Americans were promised a more affordable way of life, and things have only gotten more expensive,” Rep. Moskowitz said. “Gas is more expensive, groceries are more expensive, homes are more expensive, loans are more expensive; And you know, we’ve heard from the White House that ‘affordability was a hoax!’ And so, that’s the key issue of this race.”
Moskowitz Says Republicans Only Focus On Messaging
When asked if slashing taxes, such as stripping the fuel consumption taxes, would help Republicans in their effort to maintain control, Congressman Moskowitz said, “Well, I mean, we’re leaving. So that ain’t happening. If they wanted to prioritize it, they could’ve prioritized slashing the gas tax, but they didn’t bring it.”
“They’re doing messaging bills that aren’t going to pass. But that’s been this Congress: no serious legislation to help the American people, but lots of messaging bills that they can put in mailers and TV,” he added.
Just One Day Till House Recess
Recently, Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md) introduced legislation to suspend the federal fuel consumption tax till the end of 2026.
Before the interview, the House, however, voted on several bills, including a resolution introducing articles of impeachment on President Donald Trump – a resolution Congressman Moskowitz voted alongside Republicans to table.
Congress also announced that there will be no House session on Sept. 17, 2026, meaning that lawmakers have until the 16th to pass it before taking recess until after the midterm election.
