A former South Florida congressman has crossed party lines to endorse Scott Singer, the Republican congressional nominee for Florida’s 25th District.
Former U.S. Rep. Peter Deutsch (D-Fla.) recently announced his support for the former mayor of Boca Raton in his bid against incumbent Democratic congressman Jared Moskowitz.
“Scott Singer has served with distinction for 8 years leading Boca Raton and will be a congressman and leader our community can be proud of,” Deutsch said.
Deutsch, the third Jewish Congressman elected in Florida’s history, served Florida’s 20th Congressional District from 1993 to 2005.
Deutsch Wants To Protect Support For Israel
According to Deutsch, his reasoning for backing Singer stems from the potential change in House leadership after the Midterm election.
“If the new Congress elects a Democratic Speaker, that person will be the most anti-Israel Speaker in the history of the United States, and his speakership would threaten Israel’s security and survival as well as Jews’ security and survival in the United States, Deutsch asserted.
Singer Vows To Protect U.S.-Israel Alliance
Singer thanked Deutsch for his endorsement, emphasizing the significance of receiving support from a lifelong Democratic member of Congress.
“I’m grateful to have the endorsement of Congressman Peter Deutsch, a leader who served our South Florida community for more than a decade,” Singer said. Congressman Deutsch is a lifelong Democrat who recognizes how radical and antisemitic today’s Democratic Party has become – and the threat its direction poses to Israel, its supporters, and Jewish Americans.
“In Congress, I will proudly defend America’s unwavering alliance with Israel, and confront antisemitism wherever it appears. Together we will win this critical seat and elect a Congress that our South Florida community can be proud of.”
Deutsch additionally crossed party lines in the 2024 Presidential Election, backing President Donald Trump.
The general election is on Nov. 3, 2026.
