WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) affirmed her support for the Trump administration’s position on advancing artificial intelligence (AI), emphasizing its importance for national security.
In an exclusive interview with The Floridian, Rep. Luna shared her disapproval of calls to slow down AI advancement by AI tech CEO’s like Anthropic’s Dario Amodei.
Rep. Luna: “I completely disagree with Dario – he’s also advocating for a transnational governance headed by these AI boards above Democratic countries. Which is false; that’s like [a] technocracy, and I’m not even for that.”
“There also can’t be a pause or a moratorium because if we do that – China’s already admitted that they’re not going to slow down production – we’ll literally give them the tools to dominate the world and we can’t have that.”
Luna Suggests Additional Security Measures Instead
Congresswoman Luna, however, did suggest several solutions to ensure additional measures are in place to check AI in response to concerns.
Rep. Luna offered practices such as AI red-teaming and Human Analog Interface in the U.S. Defense sector.
AI red-teaming is a stress-testing practice on AI models used to uncover vulnerabilities in AI systems. The process strengthens AI security, reduces risks, and improves the system’s resilience.
Human Analog Interface refers to human oversight of autonomous AI systems, where individuals can intervene at any time.
Luna Calls Back To Drawbacks of Prior Private Sector Regulation
Rep. Luna: “I think right now, though, to regulate the private sector, there’s already been multiple heads of these companies that have agreed that they’re not going to go forward and that they will actually make sure their models are safer.”
“But, it is interesting, I do agree with [Vice President] JD Vance’s sentiment that you have people that are all of a sudden asking to regulate a market and that’s what happened with the meatpacking industry in the early 1900s and that results in a monopoly.”
“We don’t want that.”
