Friends of Byron Donalds, a political action committee supporting Rep. Donalds' gubernatorial campaign, released an ad promoting the Republican hopeful's plan to address Florida's affordability crisis.
The 30-second ad begins by emphasizing Rep. Donalds being raised by a single mother with two jobs and raising three kids while "barely making ends meet." Donalds grew up in Brooklyn, New York with his mom and two sisters.
"I know what living paycheck to paycheck feels like," Donalds said. "That's why I'll cut taxes, lower insurance rates, and take on the insane cost of prescription drugs. It's your money, and you need it now more than ever. As your governor, I'm going to help you keep it."
The ad comes as affordability remains a major concern for Floridians.
Rep. Donalds reiterated the concern in response to the ad on social media.
"Too many Floridians are living paycheck to paycheck. I’ve been there," Donalds wrote. "Making Florida more affordable is at the center of everything we do. Cutting taxes, fixing our insurance market, and driving down drug prices — that will be my number one priority as Governor."
The ad follows another from Friends of Byron Donalds criticizing Donalds' Democratic challenger David Jolly for his positions on taxes on tips, overtime, and social security released earlier this week. Jolly dismissed those notions almost immediately.
Rep. Donalds also shared an ad slamming Jolly as 'far-left' last week.
It looks like the governor's race is in full swing. Both Donalds and Jolly won their respective Republican and Democratic primaries in pretty convincing fashion on Aug. 18.
One can assume Donalds' attacks have just begun.
He has also challenged Jolly to three gubernatorial debates leading up to the general election on Nov. 3.
As it stands, Donalds appears slightly ahead to win the election, with polls showing him up six points in the race.
