Following alleged reports of a U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) criminal investigation and calls from political opponents to drop out of his re-election efforts, Congressman Cory Mills (R-Fla.) has called out the rumors, deeming them false narratives.
“This appears to be a desperate lie from my political opponents. I'm not aware of any DOJ investigation, nor has there been any confirmation of any such investigation, and I would fully cooperate if there was one, I have nothing to hide,” the incumbent representative wrote on X.
Mills Labels Rumors A Political Operation
In a follow-up statement on his personal X account, the House Armed Services & Foreign Affairs Committee member accused the rumors of being a “political op[eration]”, questioning the validity and convenience of the reports.
“So a supposed “phone call to one person a year ago by FBI” with no context, and a “source” claims there’s a DoJ investigation one month before primary…” the Army veteran wrote, calling out “leftist outlets.”
Ryan Elijah Accused Of Tipping Media Outlets Of DOJ Probe
Amid the reports of the DOJ’s probe into Congressman Mills and a separate House Ethics Committee investigation, Republican runner-up for Florida’s 7th Congressional District (FL CD 7), Ryan Elijah, urged the incumbent to drop out of the race.
In response, a Georgia-based political influencer, known as Tiffany Savage on X, accused Elijah of anonymously tipping media outlets on the DOJ investigation to help serve his campaign.
“I’m hearing that you [Ryan Elijah] are in fact the ‘anonymous source,’” Tiffany accused, claiming that recent straw poll data indicated that Elijah was losing the congressional race.
“What better way than to push unsubstantiated claims. Typical RINO [(Republican in Name only)] tactics,” Tiffany added.
Elijah fired back less than five minutes later, warning Savage against making false allegations.
“Be careful with that accusation. It is 100% false,” the Sanford Republican wrote.
The Floridian Publisher Javier Manjarres will be moderating a debate between Rep. Mills, Elijah, and two other Republican candidates next month.
