Congressional candidate and ‘OG Trump Conservative’ Chris Collins immediately responded to President Donald Trump’s call to end Birthright Citizenship via legislation following the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling against the president’s executive order seeking the same measure.
“President Trump is right: The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold birthright citizenship left the fight to Congress – and we don’t need a constitutional amendment to win it,” Collins wrote.
“If the voters of the 19th Congressional District send me to Congress, I will introduce a bill to ban birthright citizenship once and for all,” Collins vowed to the residents of the Floridian Congressional District.
“It’s time Congress took action to close the loophole that has rewarded millions of illegals to invade our country, strain our welfare system, and leave Florida families to foot the bill,” the former New York Congressman affirmed.
Collins Continues To Prove His Loyalty
Even before being elected to office, the Collier County Republican is keeping his campaign promise to back President Trump in every endeavor.
During his time in office, the staunch Trump supporter chaired the Congressional Trump Caucus and maintained a 100% Pro-Trump voting record in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Trump's Immediate Calls For Legislation
Collins’ immediate response was issued less than an hour after President Trump reacted to the high court’s decision against his bid against the more than 160-year legal precedent.
Upon the majority decision, President Trump asserted that despite the upholding of the Constitutional amendment, Congress “can easily make it up” via legislation.
“Congress should start TODAY to work on ending expensive and unfair to our Country, Birthright Citizenship,” the president wrote, affirming his “complete and total support.”
Justices Deem Trump's Order Unconstitutional
In its 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court deemed President Trump’s executive order titled “PROTECTING THE MEANING AND VALUE OF AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP,” unconstitutional.
In the majority opinion, Conservative Chief Justice John Roberts affirmed that the Framers of the Fourteenth Amendment extended the promise of Citizenship and its ability for people “to freely participate in our political community… to ‘every free-born person in this land.’”
