President Donald Trump and Chinese Leader Xi Jinping launched the final day of their two-day summit, strolling through the gardens at Zhongnanhai – the Chinese equivalent of the White House.

According to China’s Foreign Ministry, “The two presidents have reached important common understandings on handling their mutual concerns in a proper manner.”

The ministry added that “they both agreed to strengthen communication and coordination on international and regional issues … over the next three years and beyond.”

War in Iran

President Trump addressed the Iran war, telling reporters, “We want that to end. We don't want them to have a nuclear weapon.”

“We want the straits open, and we want them to get it ended because it's a crazy thing,” President Trump affirmed, confirming that both leaders “feel very similar on Iran.”

Aircraft, Soybeans, Trade Deals

Prior to and throughout the meeting, President Trump touted the economic deals reached with the People’s Republic of China (PRC).

“China will buy 200 planes from Boeing and could purchase up to 750 jets “if they do a good job,” President Trump told reporters, adding that the PRC will buy “billions of dollars of soybeans” and agricultural products.

Will the U.S. Aid Taiwan?

According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), President Trump revealed that Xi does not want a conflict to arise over Taiwan.

“He does not want to see a fight for independence because that would be a very strong confrontation,” the president revealed. “He doesn’t want to see a movement for independence.”

“I made no commitment either way,” President Trump stated, echoing Xi’s view that the autonomous island has belonged to the PRC for thousands of years.

“The last thing we need right now is a war that’s 9,500 miles away,”  President Trump said.

President Trump shared that Xi had asked him whether the U.S. would deploy troops in the event of a conflict over the island, to which the president confirmed that he declined to answer.

“I said, ‘I don’t talk about those things.’ There’s only one person that knows that—you know who it is? Me. I’m the only person.”
