In an interview with Fox News, U.S. Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) questioned the United States' involvement with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) amid the conflict with Iran.

The Florida Republican cited President Donald Trump’s public frustration with the U.S.’s European allies refusing to partake in the current conflict against the Islamic Republic.

In a video shared via X, Rep. Steube affirmed that, despite the U.S.’s minimal reliance on oil traversing through the maritime chokepoint, prices remain high due to worldwide demand.

“Yeah, I think [President Trump is] obviously very frustrated. We don’t get the majority of our oil through there, and these Europeans countries do, and they’re doing nothing to secure the transport of this oil through the Strait [of Hormuz],” Rep. Steube commented. “Which obviously is causing worldwide crude prices to go up, which obviously gets affected here even though we’re not getting the majority of our oil there.”

Congressman Steube questioned the U.S.’s role within international organizations, citing its allies’ inability to provide support when the U.S. requires it.

“So obviously, the president’s very frustrated by the fact that some of these European allies are not willing to do anything to secure the commercial trade through that Strait, and it kind of brings to the question. Why are we involved in NATO [North Atlantic Treaty Organization]? Why are we involved in the U.N. [United Nations]?" Rep. Steube questioned. “Because when all of those people are being attacked or are expecting the United States to come in and help them, we are there for them. The mass majority of those funding and the payments come from the United States, not from the other countries, so he’s probably obviously very frustrated.”

President Trump recently shared his frustration with NATO via Truth Social, telling the European nations to "go get your own oil.”
