President Donald Trump has announced that Iran has reopened the Strait of Hormuz.

“IRAN HAS JUST ANNOUNCED THAT THE STRAIT OF IRAN IS FULLY OPEN AND READY FOR FULL PASSAGE. THANK YOU!” President Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

President Trump’s post comes after Iranian foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, unveiled the news in a statement on X.

“In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire,” Araghchi declared.

Despite the reopening of the maritime chokepoint, President Trump affirmed that the U.S. Naval Blockade of Iranian ports will remain until an agreement is finalized between Washington and Tehran.

“THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ IS COMPLETELY OPEN AND READY FOR BUSINESS AND FULL PASSAGE, BUT THE NAVAL BLOCKADE WILL REMAIN IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT AS IT PERTAINS TO IRAN, ONLY, UNTIL SUCH TIME AS OUR TRANSACTION WITH IRAN IS 100% COMPLETE,” President Trump wrote in a subsequent post. “THIS PROCESS SHOULD GO VERY QUICKLY IN THAT MOST OF THE POINTS ARE ALREADY NEGOTIATED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!”

Iran Affirms It Won't Accept Another Cease-fire

Prior to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that the Islamic Republic will not accept another cease-fire between Iran and the U.S. Iranian officials instead want the war in the Middle East to “end here once and for all.”

According to the Turkish state news outlet Anadolu, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh called for hostilities “from Lebanon to the Red Sea,” and all war zones in the region must end.

Foreign Minister Araghchi and President Trump’s announcements come less than 24 hours after Israel and the Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon agreed to a ceasefire, bringing a break to the conflict after nearly 7 weeks of fighting in the region.
