Iran has reportedly cut off all diplomatic and indirect communications with the U.S. following President Donald Trump’s consecutive threats against the Islamic Republic, which contained a self-imposed deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Iranian media outlet Tehran Times via reports from Indian media outlet Firstpost, “Iran has closed all diplomatic and indirect channels of communication with the United States. Any and all message exchanges have also been suspended.”

The news comes hours after President Trump took to the social media platform Truth Social to warn the Islamic Republic that “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.”

President Trump’s most recent threat to Iran is part of a recent chain of warnings that began on Easter Sunday, following the rescue of two crew members stranded within the Islamic Republic after being shot down by Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) air defenses.

“Tuesday, 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time!” President Trump wrote, setting the deadline for Iran to open the maritime chokepoint or face “living in Hell.”

Recent Events Prior to Iran's Communications Cutoff

Vice President (VP) J.D. Vance expressed confidence in potential talks between the U.S. and Iran during his visit to Hungary today to support Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as he campaigns for re-election.

“We feel confident that we can get a response, whether it’s positive or negative, we’re going to get a response from the Iranians by 8 o’clock tonight,” VP Vance remarked.

"I hope they make the right response," Vance added. "They've got to know, we've got tools in our toolkit that we so far haven't decided to use. The President of the United States can decide to use them, and he will decide to use them if the Iranians don't change their course of conduct."

Iran, however, appears to show no signs of capitulation, with President Masoud Pezeshkian announcing on X that 14 million Iranians have declared they would volunteer to fight in the conflict.
