Soulja Boy, move over, because Denzel Curry has now claimed to be “the first rapper played in space.”
While Soulja Boy claims to have been the first to do numerous things, Denzel Curry – who hails from the Carol City neighborhood in Miami Gardens – has called dibs on being the first rapper played from the great beyond.
And he’s got the evidence to prove it.
For those who have been suntanning under a rock, the Artemis II mission departed Earth on April 1, 2026, and conducted a historic lunar flyby on April 6.
After sharing images of Earthset and a solar eclipse from their lunar flyby, the Artemis II crew – composed of Reid Wiseman (commander), Victor Glover (pilot), Christina Koch (mission specialist), and Jeremy Hansen (mission specialist – is heading back to Earth.
On social media, NASA provided an update on the Artemis II crew, sharing some of the music the astronauts are listening to as they prepare to return to The Big Blue Marble.
“As our Artemis II astronauts prepare to leave the lunar sphere of influence and return to Earth’s gravitational pull, they listened to ‘Tokio Drifting,’ by Denzel Curry and Glass Animals, as their wakeup song,” NASA wrote.
Curry, who attended Miami Carol City Senior High School, celebrated the news on X, writing, “Even Aliens F*ck with my Sh*t!”
More than 200,000 miles away, Florida is still making headlines.
President Donald Trump called the Artemis II crew Monday evening, congratulating them and inviting them to celebrate at the White House when they return.
“I’ll ask [NASA Administrator] Jared [Isaacman] to bring you over, and I’ll ask for your autograph because I don’t really ask for autographs much, but you deserve that,” the president said during a livestreamed conversation with the astronauts.
Safe travels and see you soon, space cowboys.
