U.S. Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez (R-Fla.) recently spoke with Fox Business to share his thoughts on Democratic Congressmembers Pramila Jayapal (Wash.) and Jonathan Jackson’s (Ill.) five-day congressional delegation to Cuba.

Rep. Gimenez also discussed recent news that the island nation has deepened its reliance on Chinese solar technology, as the U.S. oil blockade continues to affect Cuba’s “blackout-driven shortages.” An effort that has drawn criticism from some lawmakers.

“The Democrat hypocrisy shouldn’t shock us. When will they accept that communism doesn’t work!” Rep. Gimenez expressed in a post sharing a video clip of his segment on  Fox Business’ “Mornings With Maria Bartiromo.”

In the clip, Congressman Gimenez comments on Democratic officials’ alleged stance of supporting “enemies of the United States” rather than saying, “hey, the one way to really end the suffering of the Cuban people is for this regime to go.”

“Like any every regime that’s an enemy of the United States, they love. They love Maduro, and so now they go to Diaz-Canel. They love him too, and they blame the United States,” Rep. Gimenez added. “It’s the regimes, they’re Communists and socialists. Those socialist communist regimes don’t work, and they oppress their people. How about calling for the regime to change and set us to change?”

Following statements from President Trump about hundreds of millions of barrels of oil being removed from Cuba, Maria Bartiromo asked Rep. Gimenez, “What’s the big opportunity here for Cuba, sir?”

“[The] big opportunity is for Cuba to become once again the Jewel of the Caribbean, like they were in 1959. They had the second-highest standard of living in the world, and what happened? Communism happened. Oppression happened. And so this regime has to go. We can get a new Cuba, that’ll be free, democratic, and a prosperous Cuba, fairly quickly if they just change their ways and get rid of this regime,” Congressman Gimenez responded.
