The campaign for Lt. Gov. Jay Collins announced Latanya E. Peterson will be joining his gubernatorial bid as Senior Advisor for Grassroots Coalitions in a statement this week.

Peterson, who has made a career in national and Florida politics, brings "extensive experience in national political strategy, grassroots mobilization, and coalition development," according to the campaign.

"I am honored to join Lt. Governor Collins' campaign," Peterson said. "Jay has demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to the values that matter most to Floridians." I look forward to working with grassroots leaders and communities across the state to build a coalition that will help Florida forward."

  Latanya E. Peterson

Peterson previously served as Florida State Director for the Republican National Committee. She played a key role in organizing and mobilizing grassroots support that contributed to major Republican victories across the state, including the re-election of Rick Scott as Governor of Florida, the election of Lenny Curry as Mayor of Jacksonville, and the election of Ron DeSantis as Governor of Florida.

Peterson also served as a Presidential Appointee during the first Trump administration, where she was the Senior Legislative Assistant at the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency responsible for national service programs such as AmeriCorps. She worked closely with congressional stakeholders and national partners to advance legislative priorities and community service initiatives.

"Latanya brings a deep understanding of grassroots organizing and coalition building," Collins said. "Her perspective from being on the ground across the state, as well as at the national level, will be invaluable as we continue expanding our campaign's reach and connecting with communities throughout Florida."

According to the campaign, Peterson will prioritize "strengthening relations with veterans, law enforcement, faith groups, and more" as Lt. Gov. Collins looks to broaden support in his gubernatorial bid.

Collins is running against U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner, and businessman James Fishback for the Republican nomination.

The GOP primary is Aug. 18.
