WASHINGTON – Outside the House Chamber, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) spoke exclusively with The Floridian Publisher Javier Manjarres about the potential for House Democrats to impeach President Donald Trump if they win the 2026 midterm elections.

Manjarres: If the Democrats control the House, would you push for the impeachment of President Trump?

Ocasio-Cortez: I mean, listen, there’s so much we’ve got to do. I have supported impeachment articles for the president in the past. I think that there has been ample evidence of a lot of crimes being committed.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez proceeded to clarify that the calls for impeachment are not based on political grounds, but rather in terms of adherence to the rule of law.

"And here’s the thing… I want to be very clear that this is not about a disagreement in policy. This is not about 'oh, I don’t like him, so I think he should be impeached,' or I don’t agree with this person because they’re Republican or whatever, so I think they should be impeached.' That’s not what this is about," Rep. Ocasio-Cortez explained.

"This is about actual crimes happening in front of us. This is about shredding the Constitution and plunging us into war without so much as even adhering to Congress. This is about taking crypto [currency] money and money laundering that is happening right before our very eyes. This is about emoluments. This is about, regardless of party, the basic adherence to the law necessary to do the job," Rep. Ocasio-Cortez added. "And so, if you’re asking me if I’d support impeachment. I do. And I think that it’s on very objective grounds of following the law or not. And we’re not talking about little things here."

The 2026 Midterm Primaries for control of Congress are currently underway.

Democrats are aiming to win over voters who are upset with the Trump administration's handling of the economy along with other issues, while Republicans are hoping to maintain power and expand their majorities in the fall for the rest of President Donald Trump's second term in office.
