Emily Gregory Upsets Jon Maples in HD 87 Special Election

Gregory's victory was in the district home of President Donald Trump

Democrat Emily Gregory defeated Republican Jon Maples in an upset victory to win the House District 87 special election on Tuesday night.

Below is the result with 95% of reporting (per 270towin)

Emily Gregory - 51.2%

Jon Maples - 48.8%

Voter turnout was under 30%, according to the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections.

Gregory, a small business owner and Army spouse, flips a seat Republicans won by 19 points in 2022. Gregory had endorsements from U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel (D-FL) and Rep. Kelly Skidmore (D-Delray Beach, among others.

Notably, Trump won HD 87 by 11 points over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. It is also located within Trump's home at Mar-a-Lago.

HD 87 covers parts of West Palm Beach, Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Palm Beach Shores, North Palm Beach Shores, South Palm Beach, Lake Worth Beach, Juno Beach, Hypoluxo, and Lantana in Palm Beach County.

Maples, a career financial planner and former collegiate basketball player at Palm Beach Atlantic University, was endorsed by President Donald Trump in the race. Rep. Meg Weinberger (R-Palm Beach Gardens) and Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier also backed Maples.

The seat will be up again in November.
