Boca Raton mayoral candidates Andy Thomson and Mike Liebelson are in the midst of a recount to become the city's next mayor, with Thomson holding a razor-thin 5-vote edge over Liebelson as of Tuesday night.

Here are the results as of 10 pm:

  • Thomson: 7,560 votes (39.64%)
  • Liebelson: 7,555 votes (39.61%)
  • Fran Nachlas: 3,957 (20.75%)

According to state election laws, a machine recount is mandated if the margin of victory is less than or equal to 0.5% the total votes. Thomson's lead over Liebelson is currently separated by 0.03%.

If the machine recount comes back at 0.25% of the total votes or less, a manual recount is required.

Nachlas is not a part of the runoff.

The winner of the recount will replace Mayor Scott Singer, who is term-limited and cannot seek reelection. Singer has been the mayor since 2018.

The office of the mayor is a nonpartisan position.

Liebelson was holding a 2-point edge over Thomson, according to an internal poll released by the Mike Liebelson for Boca Raton Mayor campaign this week.

The Floridian will update this story to reflect the winner of the race.
