During an appearance on Fox Business's Evening Edit, Representative Greg Steube (R-FL) discussed ongoing deportation efforts, noting that legal consequences await officials who refuse to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) has received heavy scrutiny over her move to ban state officials from cooperating with ICE ahead of President Donald Trump's State of the Union.
"At every step on the way to make America safe again, sanctuary politicians—including Abigail Spanberger—have tried to slow ICE down and chosen to release criminals from their jails into our communities to perpetrate more crimes and create more victims," DHS Deputy Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement.
The Washington, D.C. District Court of Appeals ruled that DHS had the right to use Internal Revenue Service (IRS) information to track down illegal aliens and deport those with final removal orders. Despite criticism from those who are against the ruling, Rep. Steube agrees with the effort.
"I think you are going to continue to see the DOJ [Department of Justice] be active with these states that are becoming sanctuary states and then refusing to work with ICE," he said.
Rep. Steube referenced the DOJ filing a lawsuit against the state of New Jersey for apparently expanding sanctuary status and refusing to cooperate with ICE, saying that courts are "finally willing to give the President the exact power that he already had under the Constitution to rid our country of criminals and gang members and illegals that are present in our country, and if there are local and state officials who are refusing to abide by federal law, then the court system is going to get in place and strike that."
Because of that, the Florida congressman believes that"it is going to be very good for the American people." "It is going to be great for law and order in our country to rid these Democratic leaders who are trying to undermine the policies of this President, and finally have a court that is going to stand with him on these issues," he concluded.
