Representative Aaron Bean (R-FL) celebrated the House's vote to end a partial government shutdown in a recent statement, saying, "This critical legislation provides a well-earned pay raise for our troops, advances lifesaving biomedical research, invests in our air traffic controllers, and deploys new technologies to keep our skies safe."
The Senate previously passed a spending package that would fund several government agencies, except for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations remain the center of national attention, leading to a partial government shutdown over the weekend.
Ultimately, as Rep. Bean described, the House passed a bill funding all agencies, along with a two-week continuing resolution for DHS, on Tuesday, as negotiations finalizing DHS funding continue.
"Today, the House passed a bill to end the partial government shutdown caused by Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats," said Rep. Bean, adding, "This critical legislation provides a well-earned pay raise for our troops, advances lifesaving biomedical research, invests in our air traffic controllers, and deploys new technologies to keep our skies safe. The package also includes a two-week continuing resolution for the Department of Homeland Security to give Congress time to negotiate a final spending bill. House Republicans will keep fighting for the American people, defending our military and first responders, and advancing America First policies."
The vote narrowly passed, 217 in favor, 214 opposed, along strict party lines, with Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY) the sole "nay" vote among Republicans. All Democrats voted against the spending package.
