Florida Congressman Aaron Bean (R), alongside Texas Congressman August Pfluger (R), introduced the More Affordable Care Act (MACA), aiming to fix the failures of Obamacare, slash healthcare costs, and “empower families to choose the care that fits their needs.”
In an exclusive interview with The Floridian, Congressman Bean shed light into the failures of Obamacare and how MACA will remedy those failures.
“These premium tax credits are a disaster. They're rife with fraud," he argued. "We've got the studies that show there are so many fraudulent uses of them. Half the people who are on it have made no claim. Which begs the question, do they even know they're on it?”
The Congressman believes "MACA" would create a universal health savings account for medical expenses and allow select people to receive an HSA. He also confirmed that the account would fully belong to the account holder with very little government oversight.
“There's basically HSAs where you can put pretax money into an account, much like we have now. But there are so many limitations on who can get one, who can't get one. Let's not let everybody have an account,” he suggested. “A Health Savings Account that rolls over. It's your money, you get to keep it. You get to pick how you're going to spend the money.”
"MACA" would also let insurance companies compete across state lines instead of restricting them to their own state.
“We erased the state lines. Let Florida Blue compete with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nevada. Let them compete. Then [Americans] get to pick what's best for their families as [insurance companies] compete for your business. Maybe it's a high deductible plan, maybe it's specialized, there's just variety,” Bean explained.
The Florida Republican wants to put the health insurance industry in the hands of consumers, allowing them the freedom to choose what is best for them.
“We’re putting patients — not bureaucrats or insurance companies — back in charge of their healthcare," he declared in a press release. "With Trump Health Freedom Accounts, competition across state lines, expanded access to employer-sponsored health insurance, and price transparency, this legislation empowers Americans to make informed healthcare decisions,” he said in a press release."
