WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump pardoned Texas Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar and his wife Imelda Cuellar, who were indicted on charges of federal bribery and conspiracy.

President Trump took to social media to express his opinion on the previous administration’s use of the justice system.

“One of the clearest examples of this was when Crooked Joe used the FBI and DOJ to 'take out' a member of his own Party after Highly Respected Congressman Henry Cuellar bravely spoke out against Open Borders, and the Biden Border 'Catastrophe,'” Trump wrote via Truth Social.

Federal agents had charged Cuellar and his wife with accepting thousands of dollars from an Azerbaijan-owned energy company and a bank based in Mexico to promote their interests. Cuellar is suspected of agreeing to aid in shaping legislation adequate for Azerbaijan and of delivering a pro-Azerbaijan speech on the U.S. House floor. In response to the accusations, Cuellar has voiced that he and his wife are innocent.

The couple’s trial was set to begin the following April.

Trump ended his social media message announcing the pardon by stating, “Henry, I don’t know you, but you can sleep well tonight,” “Your nightmare is finally over!”

Cuellar thanked Trump publicly outside of his congressional office.

“I think the facts have been clear about this, but I would also say I want to thank God for standing during this very difficult time with my family and I,” he commented. “Now we can get back to work. Nothing has changed. We will continue working hard.” Expressed Cuellar to reporters.

When asked about whether Cuellar would switch parties after this situation, the Texas Rep. replied by stating: “No, like I said, nothing has changed.”

Since the beginning of Trump's second term, the President has issued a wide array of pardons including Cuellar's. He pardoned several Republicans accused of taking part of the January 6th attacks on the U.S. Capitol. He has also pardoned several reality TV personalities and former government officials.
