Florida Congresswoman María Elvira-Salazar (R) sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer urging the Senate to take both parties’ desires into consideration to reform healthcare.

“I signed a letter urging Senate leaders to include both parties in their legislative process to reform healthcare, so we can ensure patients come before politics and get the results we need,” she shared in a statement on X. Salazar explained how healthcare premiums are “skyrocketing” and will result in millions of Americans losing their healthcare coverage.

She also argued for the extension of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies to pad the costs of rising healthcare for Americans. “Premiums are skyrocketing, and millions could lose their coverage if we don’t act. That’s why I’m in favor of extending ACA subsidies and making sure families’ health comes first, always!” Salazar concluded.

Salazar shared the letter sent to the Senate Leaders on social media. In the letter, she asserts that bipartisan cooperation is crucial to combating the healthcare cost issue.

“If we work together, we hope that the bill will not only achieve a sixty-vote majority in the Senate, but will also then move to the House for immediate consideration and passage,” Salazar wrote. “Bipartisan engagement across both chambers will be essential to crafting a health care proposal that can pass and be signed into law.”

She further warns of the consequences that could happen if the ACA subsidies expire.

“On November 1, with the start of the open enrollment period, millions of Americans saw just how much their health insurance premiums will spike next year. Millions will lose their health care coverage because they will no longer be able to afford it,” she warned. “As you know, those who rely on the expiring Affordable Care Act enhanced premium tax credits (ePTs) are facing drastic premium increases. Allowing these tax credits to lapse without a clear path forward would risk real harm to those we represent.”
