Florida International University (FIU) has been named among the fifty best public universities in America, according to a U.S. News & World Report rankings released this week. FIU ranked 46th overall, powered by an eleventh-place honor for best value, sixteenth for innovation, and forty-fifth for veterans among public universities.

“FIU is on a clear path to becoming a Top 30 public university by 2030,” FIU President Jeanette Nuñez said in a release. “We continue to lead in academics, research, student success, and upward economic mobility.”

Along with its top 50 ranking, FIU placed first among national universities for social mobility and second among public universities for international business, and third nationally.

FIU also ranked 97th overall among national universities, according to the report.

U.S. News and World Report's rankings are widely regarded as the top aggregate of higher education performance in the country.

The recognition follows other accolades for the Miami-based school, which was established in 1965 and opened to students in 1972.

According to their release, FIU has been No. 1 in the state for three consecutive years for performance-based funding on student success. The school was also ranked the eighth-best university by Washington Monthly, and No. 1 for “Best Bang for the Buck” by the publication in the Southeast.

In addition, FIU was ranked 21st among top public universities and 70th nationally by Niche. The release also noted FIU is one of 21 universities with the Carnegie RI designation for very high research activity in America, along with the Opportunity Colleges & Universities designation.

“Rankings that evaluate universities from different perspectives consistently highlight FIU’s strength in academic quality, research, and student success,” said FIU Provost, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Elizabeth M. Béjar. “The U.S. News rankings once again show that FIU is providing an outstanding education, creating opportunities that change lives and demonstrating our return on investment.”
