Senate President Ben Albritton has announced a meeting of the Florida Senate Republican Caucus on Oct. 14 to pick Majority Leader Jim Boyd (R-Bradenton) as the president-designate for the 2026-28 legislative term.
"A dedicated family man and business owner, we have all witnessed his strong work ethic, innate intellect, and willingness to tackle tough issues with grace and good humor – all characteristics that enabled him to quickly rise to leadership positions in both the House and the Senate," Albritton said of Boyd.
Sen. Boyd, 68, represents District 20, which includes parts of Hillsborough and Manatee counties. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018 before being elected to the Senate in 2020.
As a Senator, Boyd is a member of the Joint Committee on Public Counsel Oversight, Joint Legislative Budget Commission, Agricultural Committee, Banking and Insurance Committee, Fiscal Policy Committee, Regulated Industries Committee, and Rules Committee.
Sen. Albritton called Boyd the "right leader to carry on the legacy of Republican leadership in the Florida Senate" in his memorandum to his colleagues, noting Floridians were seeking strong support for a conservative agenda guided by leaders who "defend faith, family, the dignity of work, and the opportunity to live in freedom."
"Jim always works to build consensus and has spent countless hours with Senators on both sides
of the aisle exploring and talking through ideas to make legislation stronger and bring tough and
complex issues across the finish line," Albritton continued. "When it comes to constituent services, he digs into the details to make sure Floridians are getting the answers they need and expect from our elected leaders."
Outside of Tallahassee, Boyd is a small business owner through his family-owned Boyd Insurance and Investments, which has "helped Florida families and businesses safeguard their lives and most valuable assets."
Boyd graduated from Florida State University in 1978. He currently lives with his wife of over 40 years, Sandy, in Bradenton.
