Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters appears to be fully on board with a suggestion made by President Donald Trump to hold a GOP convention ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Gruters was elected chair of the Republican National Committee at the GOP's summer meeting in Atlanta last week.

"Let's Go! Great idea President Trump," Gruters said on Facebook.

In his post, Trump insinuated a convention would “WIN BIG IN THE MIDTERMS” and motivate GOP voters ahead of next year's elections. Republicans currently hold a slim 7-seat majority (with four vacancies) in the House, which historically sways in favor of the opposition party in midterms.

“The Republican Party is doing really well. Millions of people have joined us in our quest to MAKE AMERICA, GREAT AGAIN,” Trump said. “We won every aspect of the Presidential Election and, based on the great success we are having, are poised to WIN BIG IN THE MIDTERMS.”

Trump won both the electoral vote and popular vote over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race. The president is hoping for more good luck next November, which could prevent him from becoming a rubber stamp in the final two years in office.

“We have raised far more money than the Democrats, and are having a great time fixing all of the Country Destroying mistakes made by the Biden Administration, and watching the USA heal and prosper,” Trump continued. “The results are incredible, a record pace!!! In that light, I am thinking of recommending a National Convention to the Republican Party, just prior to the Midterms. It has never been done before. STAY TUNED!!!”

Gruters was endorsed by the president for chairman of the RNC back in July. Trump also tabbed him to be Florida's next chief financial officer (CFO) before taking the national committee position, which, under his lead, could determine if the president can continue to initiate his agenda and avoid gridlock with Democrats post next November's results.
