Trump vs. DeSantis II (Ingoglia vs. Gruters)
After a nasty 2024 presidential primary election that saw now-President Donald Trump crushing Gov. Ron DeSantis to win the Republican presidential nomination, the bad blood between the two men had somewhat calmed, until now—Enter Blaise Ingoglia and Joe Gruters.
President Trump and Gov. DeSantis have been cordial since, but now it appears as if the two could butt heads in the 2026 midterm elections.
Trump is backing Sen. Joe Gruters to be chief financial officer (CFO) of the state, while DeSantis just appointed Sen. Blaise Ingoglia to fill that open spot now-Rep. Jimmy Patronis left vacant when he was elected to the U.S. Congress earlier this year.
Now, two of Trump's top advisors, Pollster Tony Fabrizio and Chris LaCivita, have come out in support of Gruters' candidacy.
DeSantis obviously backs Ingoglia's reelection to the CFO position next year, so the table is set for a midterm proxy slugfest between Trump and DeSantis.
How ugly could this contest get?
Let's just say that this race, along with the Attorney General race (DeSantis appointed his former chief of staff James Uthmeier) have 2028 presidential primary implications.
DeSantis still wants to be president, at it appears as if he is lining up the political chess pieces if something drastic happens at the highest levels of American politics these next 3 years.
Here is what Ingoglia stated after the announcement:
I’m honored to be appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis as Florida’s next Chief Financial Officer.
Over the next year and a half, my number one priority is meaningful property tax relief. I won’t rest until we find a solution for Florida taxpayers.
I will be an unrelenting, proactive fiscal watchdog for our state and protect your tax dollars against waste, fraud and abuse.
If insurance companies don't live up to their contractual obligations Floridians will know because I will call them out. We will shine a light on bad actors, stop fraud, and bring down rates.
Floridians deserves accountability. I'm here to deliver it.
We will NOT let Florida become New York or Californa.
Florida is the most amazing place to live. Let’s keep her free, strong, and thriving.
Rep. Brian Mast—Today, on Glioblastoma Awareness Day, we honor the fighters, remember the lives lost, and recommit ourselves to finding a cure.
Our community knows this disease all too well. We’ve lost far too many to this aggressive and deadly brain tumor. More than 13,000 Americans will be diagnosed with glioblastoma this year alone.
That’s why I support legislation to designate the third Wednesday of July as Glioblastoma Awareness Day, to shine a light on this devastating disease, bring hope to those still fighting, and push for the progress we desperately need.
Rep. Kathy Castor—I’m demanding that the Trump Admin immediately end their illegal pause & release critical education funding approved by Congress.
This delay is disrupting school budgets, jeopardizing local initiatives & hurting Tampa Bay students & families as the school year rapidly approaches.
Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick—Adequate staffing and expertise in fragile regions like Syria are critical. As Ranking Member of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, I remain committed to ensuring we continue moving forward—not backward.
Efficient passport and visa processing, renewed hope in vulnerable communities, and a strong diplomatic presence are essential to maintaining regional stability. We must stay on an upward trajectory.
