MIAMI LAKES – Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) released a statement announcing Bill H.R. 672 has successfully passed through the House and is being brought to the Senate for further deliberation.

The bill aims to give Miami Lakes a postal code, as it currently shares one with nearby Hialeah, causing issues regarding insurance rates, mail and package deliveries, and economic development.

“Big win for Miami Lakes! My bill, H.R. 672, to create a unique ZIP code for the town, just passed the House. This bill aims to fix mail delays, improve census accuracy, and protect vital funding for local services,” he said. “These challenges have affected vital funding intended for services such as senior programs and led to wildly fluctuating insurance rates, including for cars. Miami Lakes has been waiting for over 20 years to secure a stand-alone ZIP code, and with my bill’s passage, we’re one step closer to providing a long-overdue solution.”

Since its incorporation in 2000, Miami Lakes has been aiming to differentiate itself from neighboring Hialeah, Hialeah Gardens, and Miami Gardens in an effort to bolster the local economy and enhance the well-being of Miami Lakes residents.

"It’s high time communities like Miami Lakes receive their own zip code. This simple and common-sense change would vastly improve life for customers of the United States Postal Service, like Miami Lakers. I urge every member of Congress to continue supporting H.R. 672 to help enhance service for communities like mine.” Miami Lakes Mayor Joshua Dieguez said.

Previously, Rep. Díaz-Balart attempted to include a provision in H.R. 6303 that would have authorized the United States Postal Service to establish a dedicated ZIP code for Miami Lakes and several other municipalities. The House passed the bill and sent it to the Senate for further consideration.

Again, Diaz-Balart introduced a bill to designate a unique ZIP code for Miami Lakes, which also passed the House and was sent to the U.S. Senate for further consideration. Additionally, in 2019, 2021, and 2023, Díaz-Balart introduced similar legislation to address this issue with no resolution.
