Rep. Dan Daley (D-Coral Springs) shared Tuesday some of Broward County's hopeful budget appropriations after the Florida Legislature finally approved a $115.1 billion budget for the next fiscal year last night. If approved by Gov. Ron DeSantis, Broward could receive more than $3 million.
"Late last night, we approved the state budget—including over $3.2M for Broward County, now headed to the Governor’s desk," Daley said. "This vital investment supports our community’s future, and we’re proud to keep delivering real results for District 96."
Rep. Daley detailed the following appropriations for the county. Daley's House district covers portions of western Broward, including Coral Springs.
- Sunrise Basin 15 Storm Water Drainage System: $750,000
- Tamarac Underground Fiber Network Expansion - Phase 3B: $750,000
- Forever Family Child Abuse Prevention, Foster Care Adoption Awareness and Recruitment: $602,550
- Closing the Kosher Meal Gap: $400,000
- Hebrew Academy Student Wellness Center: $400,000
- Deerfield Beach Alzheimer's Daycare Senior Transportation: $300,000
The overall budget was approved in a near-unanimous vote in both chambers, ending a grueling (and seemingly never-ending) battle in the Republican-controlled legislature.
The agreement also likely prevents Florida from going into a partial government shutdown if signed by DeSantis. The governor has until July 1 to sign the budget, the start of the new fiscal year.
"In my knowledge, there's been no other process of a budget like this year," Senate budget chair Ed Hooper said from the Senate Floor Monday night. "We have had shouting matches, we have had finger pointing with our friends across the rotunda, we've had discussions.
"But at the end of the day we sat down face to face and we got a deal—and nobody on either side can claim 'we won' because I hope the state of Florida won," Hooper added.
Along with Broward County, the budget's key appropriations include $614 million for added Everglades protections and allocating $57 million to food and security programs for low-income Floridians.
