Another special election is happening today in Florida. Voters will decide between Republican Brian Hodgers and Democrat Juan Hinojosa in House District 32.

The winner of the election will replace Rep. Debbie Mayfield (R-Melbourne), who officially resigned from the seat on Monday. Mayfield is running for Senate in District 19.

HD 32 includes part of Brevard County.

Like with most Florida races, HD 32 is heavily Republican. Mayfield beat Hinojosa by nearly 29 points in HD 32 last November.

Donald Trump also defeated Vice President Kamala Harris with 60% of the vote in Brevard in the presidential election.

Earlier this year, Hodgers narrowly beat Bob White and Terry Cronin in the HD 32 Republican primary. Hinojosa, on the other hand, did not face a Democratic primary challenge.

According to his website, Hodgers lists fixing the insurance crisis, property taxes, the border, and taxes as some of his top priorities.

The Florida Police Benevolent Association endorsed him for the seat in May.

"Honored to have the support of our law enforcement officers," Hodgers said. "Every day, these brave men and women put on a bulletproof vest and put their lives on the line to protect and serve. They deserve a strong voice in our legislature, and I’m committed to being just that in Tallahassee."

In addition, Hodgers earned support from the Associated Industries of Florida, Bikers for Trump, Business Voice of Florida's Space Coast, Conservative Watch USA, Florida Chamber of Commerce, Florida Realtors, and Space Coast Association of Realtors

Hinojosa grew up in South Texas and is a U.S. Army Veteran. He supports the decriminalization of marijuana while putting a 6% sales tax on weed sales.

Hinojosa also wants to use that tax revenue to create a state-funded program offering 4% low-interest home loans for first- and second-time homebuyers. He said the plan would help Floridians attain homeownership and build generational wealth.

Polls close in HD 32 at 7 p.m. Eastern time.
