Representative Greg Steube (R-FL) discussed the so-called "big beautiful bill" in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Wall Street, saying Senate Republicans must unite around the bill to get it to President Donald Trump's desk around Memorial Day.
Rep. Steube said that while the House of Representatives pushed work on the bill a week back, "We will still make the timeline that the Speaker [Mike Johnson (R-LA)] has set out for us. That still gives us the following week to pass the tax bill on the floor. Each of these different pieces has to go through the different committees of jurisdiction and then be put together for that one big, beautiful bill on the floor."
Still, he noted that "there is a lot of pressure right now to make sure that we get this as right as we can on all of the issues," and Senate Republicans must vote on the bill because "there is not going to be a lot of room for them to make changes and send it back. We have only got the three-vote majority on the [Senate] floor. We cannot lose more than three votes, so we have got to ensure that every Republican is voting for the House bill when it goes over to the Senate."
Host Maria Bartiromo asked Rep. Steube if any Republicans in the House were likely to vote against the bill, highlighting Representatives Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Victoria Spartz (R-IN) as potential opponents.
"Both of them voted no on the actual budget resolution," the Florida Congressman replied, "So I expect them to vote no on the overall package. So that means we can only lose one more vote, which makes it obviously very challenging."
Nevertheless, Steube added that "the great thing about having President Trump in office is obviously he can put a lot of pressure on members, and I think there is going to be a big outcry from the base and from Republicans and from Americans to get this right and to get this done."
In February, the Florida Congressman previously suggested that legislating the "big beautiful bill" would "work itself out."
