Bad Blood Between DeSantis and Florida Legislature Spills Over Into Overtime
Can it get any uglier in the 2025 Legislative session between lawmakers and Governor Ron DeSantis? Probably.
Lawmakers are now going into overtime because they just can't seem to come together and get anything done.
Lawmakers are now going to convene on May 12 in hopes to finally get through session. Lawmakers and lobbyists we spoke to say they are fed up with DeSantis, but are aloso questioning Speaker Daniel Perez's motives for pushing back so hard against the Executive Office.
The over all sentiment is that DeSantis's treatment and strong-arming of the Republican-led Florida Legislature over the past several years caused the divide, and that 2026, when DeSantis is termed out of office, can't come any quicker.
Several lobbyists and public relations fixtures in Tallahassee have also said that DeSantis's "selfish" focus on his political future has hit them in the pocket book.
DeSantis's push to get lawmakers to focus on his issues alienated other important and some perceived not-so-important issues.
These abandoned issues translated into lost revenue for everyone with ties to the state legislature.
Let me just tell you, most of the the Tallahassee lobby corp is not in favor of a Casey DeSantis governorship.
So, if any one of these lobbyists tells you that this posting is inaccurate or that hey are supportive of a third DeSantis term in office, they are full of shit.
