During a. press conference in Tampa, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis turned on two of his most loyal backers—The Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) and Chairman Evan Power— for suggesting that a summit between the governor and Legislative Leaders, namely Speaker Daniel Perez and President Ben Albritton, take place to address the state’s “tax and budget priorities.”
“That’s not the role of the Republican Party of Florida…We’re not going to do a dog and pony show,” scoffed Gov. DeSantis.
DeSantis’s rebuke of the idea comes just three days after the RPOF announced its proposal to help mend bridges between the popular governor and state lawmakers.

“Our Republican leaders are deeply committed to this state and have bold ideas to keep Florida thriving,” said RPOF Chairman Evan Power in the statement. “Bringing everyone to the table will help us focus on our shared priorities—fiscal responsibility, tax relief, and a balanced budget,” said Chairman Power. “Uniting us to deliver for the future of Florida.”
In response to DeSantis, Chairman Power stated,” Floridians want historic tax reform and the Republican Party is always ready to help in any way possible to advance the goals of our Republican team.
