Melanie Krause, the acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is reportedly preparing to resign her job following disagreements with a new interagency deal with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
ICE and the IRS recently struck a deal where the latter will share illegal immigrant tax information to aid in the former’s prosecution of illegal immigrants.
The information-sharing deal has been criticized by progressives for threatening the privacy of taxpayers.
Broader disagreement over the vision which President Donald Trump has for the IRS has prompted the resignation of IRS leaders with different ideological priorities.
Krause, whose career in the government began during former President Barack Obama’s first term and joined the IRS’ C-suite during former President Joe Biden’s administration, became the latest such leader to resign.
Krause is reportedly set to cease all work for the IRS on April 28, and it is alleged she is departing the IRS because of a perceived inability to influence the White House’s decisions.
The Trump administration has been leveraging all available tools in its fight against illegal immigration.
In the months following President Trump’s inauguration, illegal immigration levels have dropped to historic lows.
Border Czar Tom Homan defended the IRS-ICE cooperation scheme, arguing that it is intended to protect "social security for American people."
"Illegal aliens use the social security numbers of American people every day," claimed Border Czar Homan.
Illegal Immigrants reportedly pay billions in federal, state, and local taxes in 2022, but some in the US government argue that they present a net fiscal loss.
Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin argued the new IRS-ICE cooperation will help remove dangerous illegal immigrants “from voter rolls, as well as identify what public benefits these aliens are using at the American taxpayer expense.”
