The latest continuing resolution (CR) bill has sparked division in the U.S. House, with Florida Congressman Jared Moskowitz (D) criticizing Republicans for their handling of government funding. During an interview with MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski, Rep. Moskowitz accused the GOP of hypocrisy, pointing out that the same party that ousted former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R) over a CR is now supporting a similar measure under House Speaker Mike Johnson (R).

"Yes, a shutdown is not what Democrats want. We’ve been saying that we don’t want that for a month," the Florida lawmaker said during the interview. "But ultimately, the Republicans control the House, the Senate, the Executive Branch, they have more votes on the Supreme Court, so they’re in control of all branches of government, and so it’s their job to put something forward that we can all vote for on a collective basis. That’s not what they’ve done."

Rep. Moskowitz also criticized Speaker Johnson for failing to fulfill his promise to pass 12 individual appropriations bills, arguing that the CR bill represents the same "status quo" approach that Republicans previously rejected.

"Let’s remember, why do we have Mike Johnson? Kevin McCarthy was removed as speaker because he did a CR, and so, look, the Americans voted against the status quo, and yet Mike Johnson brings a status quo CR bill," Rep. Moskowitz said.

Additionally, Rep. Moskowitz highlighted the irony in the bill’s provisions, noting that it funds programs Republicans previously criticized for waste and inefficiency.

"In fact, that CR bill would refund a lot of the stuff that DOGE claims that they found, which is just ironic. That exposes the big lie that’s been going on," he said.

Despite the criticism, Rep. Moskowitz reiterated that Democrats are willing to work with Republicans to prevent a government shutdown but will not support policies that are harmful to Americans.

"We’re not just going to swallow what they put on the floor if it’s bad for America," he concluded.
