With Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) expected to become Secretary of State under President-elect Donald Trump, speculation on who will fill his empty seat in the Senate come 2025 has run rampant. Florida Attorney General (AG) Ashley Moody discussed the possibility of her replacing Sen. Rubio in a recent appearance on Fox and Friends First, where she seemed to decline, saying, "I have my hands full here as Attorney General."
"Let me tell you what my priorities are right now. Last Tuesday, the American people said, 'We are back. We are ready to take the government back on behalf of the people and really upend some of these agencies who have their own priorities in mind, these bureaucrats. So you are going to have to have people in these high offices working with Trump, even leaders in the Senate like [Senator] Rick Scott (R-FL) who have a history of getting things done. I think his tagline has always been, 'Let's get to work,' that can drill down into the morass of these bureaucracies and make sure that we are doing these hard U-turns that we need to do in this country to get us back on the right path," said AG Moody.
Host Sean Duffy repeated the question of the AG wanting Sen. Rubio's spot, to which she answered, "I have my hands full here as Attorney General, and I am incredibly focused on this job working on behalf of Floridians, making sure that I am protecting the autonomy of the state, pushing Washington out of our business, and holding them accountable."
"Of course, I have loved being in leadership working with President Trump [and] working with Governor [Ron] DeSantis (R-FL), and I hope I can continue working on behalf of Floridians," Moody concluded.
In addition to Moody, potential replacements for Rubio include Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nunez (R-FL), DeSantis Chief of Staff James Uthmeier, and former Florida House Speaker Josh Oliva.
While not on the shortlist, Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) received support for taking the position on X (formerly Twitter), which he was asked about in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Making Money, which he seemed to decline by saying, "I do not know what Governor DeSantis is going to decide to do. It is his decision to make an appointment [and] I know he is going to make a decision there. I am just going to continue serving my district."
