Teamster Team Up Against Team Harris/Walz
In a massive blow to both campaigns, union giant Teamsters will not issue a presidential endorsement for the first time since 1996.
"We sought commitments from both Trump and Harris not to interfere in critical union campaigns or core Teamsters industries — and to honor our members’ right to strike — but were unable to secure those pledges,” said Teamsters General Sean O’Brien.
In recent years, Teamsters has backed Democratic candidates like President Joe Biden. However, in a poll released Wednesday, the union revealed that members overwhelmingly voted to endorse Trump over Harris. Despite this and O'Brien's increasingly friendly relationship with Trump (he was the first Teamsters leader ever to speak at the Republican National Convention) they have chosen to forgo an endorsement altogether.
This is the second time since 1960 that they have skipped delivering a presidential endorsement.
