President Joe Biden’s administration is being scathingly scrutinized by Republicans on the third anniversary of thirteen US service members’ deaths during the US’ Afghanistan withdrawal.
Under President Biden’s watch, ISIS-K terrorists detonated suicide bombs at the Abbey Gate of Kabul’s airport and killed 13 US military personnel.
Many Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, have blamed the Biden-Harris administration for the tragedy in Kabul and have requested the administration provide explanations.
Namely, President Trump has cited Vice President Kamala Harris’ decisive role in directing the Afghanistan withdrawal to impute her for the servicemembers’ deaths.
Vice President Harris previously proudly backed Biden’s decision to withdraw from Afghanistan in the manner that he did.
In an interview with CNN, Harris boasted Biden heavily relied on her when making consequential decisions, including withdrawing from Afghanistan.
Harris affirmed she was “the last person in the room” the day withdrawing from Afghanistan was decided.
President Trump’s campaign claimed via press release the Harris-Biden administration has not taken accountability for the servicemembers’ deaths nor contacted the deceased’s families.
“Now, the families of the fallen — ignored by Harris and Biden — are still waiting for answers, three years after the worst moment of their lives,” said the campaign. “It didn't have to be this way — and it will never happen again under President Trump.”
Trump also lamented how billions of US military assets abandoned in Afghanistan by the Biden-Harris administration are now in the Taliban’s hands.
The Taliban demonstrated their possession (and use) of such military equipment in a recent military parade commemorating their expulsion of US forces.
Meanwhile, Representatives Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) and John Rutherford (R-FL) have filed legislation to honor the 13 fallen soldiers.
The bill would direct military officials to read a prepared script during official and burial flag-folding ceremonies.
The script explains each fold’s meaning and pays tribute to all US military servicemembers.
“This legislation honors all our brave servicemembers, especially the 13 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation," said Representative Díaz-Balart via press release. "Their heroism is etched in the heart of our country, and behind each of them stands a Gold Star Family whose strength and resilience continue to inspire.
